Category: Capstone Games

In June 1972, five men are arrested in Washington's Watergate building. What's looks like a third-rate burglary attempt of the Democratic National Committe induces journalists of the Washington Post to start an investigation. What they discovered was that the five men were directed by the White House to spy on political opponents. In Watergate, one player assumes the role of a Journalist, while the other embodies the Nixon Administration - each with a unique set of cards. To win, Nixon must build up enough momentum to make it to the end of the presidential term, whereas the Journalist must gather evidence to link the crime directly to the President.

  • EMBODY HISTORICAL FIGURES: Face off in a tense duel where one player assumes the role of the Nixon Administration and the other the Journalist of the Washington Post in a race for the truth.
  • AUTHENTIC INVESTIGATION COMPONENTS: Includes 1 game board, 44 specialized cards, picture tiles of historical figures, 36 evidence tokens, momentum tokens, and an initiative token.
  • GATHER EVIDENCE OR BUILD MOMENTUM: As the Journalist, gather evidence to link the crime directly to the President; as Nixon, build enough momentum to finish your term and outlast the investigation.
  • PERFECT FOR TENSE DUEL SESSIONS: Ideal for quick weekend game nights, holiday hobby sessions, or summer tabletop nights where players desire a deeply immersive historical and political challenge.

Playing as the Washington Post newsroom racing to connect the burglars to higher-ups is way more tense than I expected from a board game. The way the 1972 timeline cards feed into the investigation makes every round feel like you're one bad scoop away from losing the trail. Easily the most thematic

The tension of trying to publish stories before your rival does keeps every round tight. Only gripe is the rulebook — we spent a good 20 minutes on the first playthrough just flipping back and forth. Once it clicked though, the whole newsroom scramble felt genuinely tense.

The asymmetric roles between the journalists and Nixon's team feel really balanced—each side has distinct win conditions that force different strategies. My only minor gripe is that the rulebook could be clearer on a few edge cases, but once you get into it the historical tension is fantastic.
