In Gruntz, you'll command units like infantry, tanks, and aircraft with rock-paper-scissors-like relationships. For example, Gruntz are slow-moving and can't defeat all enemy units, but they're the only ones who can capture the control points at the middle of the map. Planes wreak havoc on the battlefield, but carefully placed Anti-Aircraft stop them in their tracks. When you deploy tanks and trucks, you'll outfit them with different Magnetic attachments! Choose a cannon for extra firepower, or a cargo hold to transport troops. This flexibility creates awesome counterplay and tactical decision-making. Capture the zones in the middle of the board to gain points. First to three points wins!

  • Incredibly unique abstract/wargame 2 player experience with layers of clever decisions to be made.
  • Innovative use of magnetic attachments give the game an extremely high tactile/toy-like feel without detracting from the strategy.
  • Classic comic strip style artwork make this an eye-catching product.
  • High quality wooden magnetic components at an extremely affordable price point gives Gruntz a premium feel.
  • Easily accesible ruleset and quick play give this a low learning curve and incredible replayability.

Henry ★★★★★

The rock-paper-scissors unit matchups make every turn feel like a real decision, especially knowing my slow Gruntz can't take everything head-on. I keep reaching for it when I want a strategy game that's quick to teach but still has teeth.

Took a couple games to click, but once I started using Gruntz as a cheap frontline screen while my tanks did the real damage, the whole thing opened up. The counter-unit setup keeps every match tense, since sending the wrong squad at the wrong target just gets them wiped.

The rock-paper-scissors unit matchups make every match feel like an actual puzzle instead of a dice roll. Tanks shred infantry but get wrecked by aircraft, so you can't just spam one type and win. Been playing it nonstop all week.
